The Opportunity
This position it's a subject matter expert that provides mentoring and guidance in the daily management of technology, operational systems and processes, and human capital allocation to support the execution of manufacturing engineering and operations plans in the Electrophysiology QRO site. The role is also responsible for the stewardship of local engineering career tracks and development opportunities, including the strategic roadmap for technology transfer, NPI and new product development for the site. Identification and sponsoring of DMAIC and A3 thinking projects such as continuous improvement projects to serve business needs.

The Opportunity
This position it's a subject matter expert that provides mentoring and guidance in the daily management of technology, operational systems and processes, and human capital allocation to support the execution of manufacturing engineering and operations plans in the Electrophysiology QRO site. The role is also responsible for the stewardship of local engineering career tracks and development opportunities, including the strategic roadmap for technology transfer, NPI and new product development for the site. Identification and sponsoring of DMAIC and A3 thinking projects such as continuous improvement projects to serve business needs.
What You'll Do
- Consistently promote the EP QRO Quality system through the proper allocation of resources and skills set, placing product quality and patient safety first, and by supporting internal or external audits.
- Drive and develop strategic roadmap for technology transfer, NPI and new product development.
- Coach and mentor technical personnel on the execution of robust investigation analyses, the application of scientific and critical thinking in interpreting data and arriving at conclusions, and to understand broader implications of their work regarding continuous improvement and CAPA resolution - i.e. effectiveness checks of longer term action items.
- Set a compelling and inspirational vision and mission statement for the manufacturing engineering department in line with the broader EP QRO vision and values, and lead by example.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, develop, provide candid feedback, and manage performance up to and including dismissal of staff not performing to expectations.
- Champion DMAIC and A3 thinking training and resulting project completion in line with manufacturing engineering Cost Improvement Projects (CIPs).
- Instruct and educate manufacturing engineering staff on the impact of production yield and manufacturing unit variance (MUV) on capacity planning, product availability, Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE), process flow mapping (PFM), and the development of unit cost glides feeding financial forecasts - i.e. Latest Best Estimate (LBE) cycle and the upcoming year's plan including any need for the creation of RCE's.
- Facilitate the implementation of critical to quality (CTQ) attributes in engineering drawings cascading to design FMEAs, process FMEAs, control plans, inspection plans and manufacturing process instructions (MPIs) to drive variability reduction and optimal product performance through zero-defects and process monitoring.
- Monitor, review and approve the quality and effectiveness of new product introduction activities, manufacturing readiness, validations or confirmation runs, and short- and long-term objectives within the constraints of scope, time and cost.
- Lead, review and approve capital requests and financial analyses based on established tools and techniques (discounted cash flow, return on investment, payback period) to stay within approved budget and achieve manufacturing engineering department objectives.
- Coordinate the relevant elements of project management that apply to a manufacturing engineering project, including the required procurement of tools or instructions, and support projects with individual contributors who add value to the project plan. Budget and hire external talent as needed.
- Communicate topics effectively through formal and informal presentations and reports, skillfully adapting style and content tailored to various audiences (not all technical), providing updates on department deliverables, risks and costs to senior management and other organizations outside EP QRO.
- Collaborate with other functional managers, directors and divisional experts to achieve site milestones, and/or to establish learning gigs that provide development opportunities for others.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in science or technical related field. Advance degree preferred
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in medical devices or pharmaceuticals.
- English language is required, skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven track record in engineering management supported by tangible results and consistent achievement of critical milestones.
- History of working independently, balancing both strategic and tactical priorities for the business, while creating a vision of excellence for a technical department specifically.
- Ample knowledge of financial planning, both capital and discretionary expense, budgeting and execution while monitoring a project performance and adjusting constraints to meet project goals.
- Able to lead and collaborate with cross-site, cross-functional teams across different areas to manage outcomes of a technically complex function in a high production volume environment.
- Excellent written, oral and multimedia communication skills to ensure personnel and senior management engagement and to influence decision making.
- A technical background in health care, nutritional products, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceutical, or similar industries (preferred).
- Understanding of broader business and economic trends in the healthcare industry to properly reinforce a culture of compliance.
- knowledge of Lean Six Sigma tools and their implementation to achieve significant cost savings measures (preferred).
