Position Summary:
The High School U.S. History Teacher at The American School Foundation of Guadalajara (ASFG) is responsible for delivering a robust and comprehensive curriculum covering U.S. History, with a specific focus on AP U.S. History (APUSH). The teacher will ensure students develop strong historical inquiry, analytical thinking, and writing skills in line with both College Board standards and the school's mission to prepare students for higher education and active citizenship.

• Implement project-based learning, including research assignments and group presentations, to encourage students to explore U.S. history topics in-depth (11th US History Thematic).
Classroom Environment & Student Engagement:
• Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where students are encouraged to explore difficult historical questions and understand multiple viewpoints.
• Promote empathy and humanization through the study of topics such as immigration, civil rights, and protest movements in American history(11th US History Thematic).
• Engage students in historical debates and discussions on patriotism, protest, and social justice, drawing connections between past and present(11th US History Thematic).
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in History or a related field.
• Valid teaching certification.
• At least 2 years of experience teaching U.S. History at the high school level, with knowledge of College Board AP U.S. History.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and prepare students for AP-level coursework and exams.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with thematic and inquiry-based approaches to teaching history.
• Familiarity with AP U.S. History exam structure, scoring, and requirements.
• International teaching experience and an understanding of teaching history in a multicultural context.
• Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning principles & practices.
Professional Development:
• Participate in ongoing training, including AP U.S. History professional development workshops and conferences, to stay updated on exam changes and best practices for teaching historical thinking skills.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field
• Valid teaching certification
• Minimum of 2 years of high school teaching experience

Primary Responsibilities
Social Emotional Learning:
• Foster a thriving, caring, and just community in the classroom.
• Teach students to understand and manage their emotions, thoughts, and actions.

Instructional Strategies:

• Assessment and Feedback:
- Regularly assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessments, including document-based questions (DBQs), essays, and exams modeled after the AP exam.
