To help us accomplish this, we are seeking a Bilingual RUBUS Breeder - Program Manager. This position is based in Jalisco.
Under the direction of the Breeding Manager, leads zero and low chill breeding activities for Blackberries and Raspberries. This includes but is not limited to developing crossing plans, making selections, managing projects and processes, and overseeing data collection and reporting. Additionally, it directs breeding and field staff to optimize breeding activities for zero and low chill levels, while supporting genetic enrichment across other chill levels.
This position reports to the Breeding Manager and supervises other employees in the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Other duties may be assigned)
- Responsible for performing and directing Breeding Technicians in all program activities including plantin, greenhouse/winter house management, controlled Rubus crosses, seedling management, phenotypic data collection, harvest, lead field evaluations of seedling families, selection blocks, and varieties, coordinate and perform fruit lab data collection, routine care and maintenance of plant inventory, support traceability and import/export systems through timely DNA and virus testing of plant material, coordinates True-To-Type program as required, responsible for accurate propagation for variety development needs.
- Supervise the day-to-day labor force, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
- Maintains confidentiality and ensures safe keeping of proprietary varieties.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING:
- English language proficiency.
- Master's degree or higher in horticulture, botany or related field and 4+ years' experience in a breeding or horticultural production environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including general database knowledge.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with and manage high levels of detailed information.
- Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks – excellent time management, organizational, risk management, and problem-solving skills.
