PURPOSE
The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for providing strong financial leadership and supporting all costing activities in the group. This role is responsible for managing the end to end standard cost process, annual budget, monthly forecast, providing recommendations to improve site performance and ensuring cost alignment with other plants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Cost Accounting Manager reports to the Plant Controller and is responsible for supporting team activities including:
- Standard Costing - This role leads the company's cost accounting function, overseeing the full lifecycle of standard costs, from development and implementation to annual updates and analysis. The role also involves collaborating with operations, planning, and engineering to understand cost drivers and ensure accurate cost allocations. In addition, this position encompasses in-depth cost and production analyses, including review of MRP, job costs, work orders, Bills of Material, Routings, material overhead rates and managing the opening and closing of costing periods within the system.
- Management Reporting - Utilize SAP, AO and other BI tools (SAC) to generate and analyze costing reports, identifying and explaining variances against standard/budgeted costs to provide data-driven insights for decision-making and cost optimization.
- Budgeting and Forecasting - Assist with developing the plant's annual budget and monthly forecasting including analysis and presentations as needed
- Inventory Control - Review and support monthly and ad hoc reporting of inventory. Provide recommendations related to process improvements related to inventory, including analysis of our provisions, and responding to auditor inquiries related to inventory.
- Monthly Close - Support month-end close as requested
- Special Projects - Represent finance on cross functional projects and initiatives. Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce company policy via systems that improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the company
- Other - Ensures proper accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and statutory requirements. Monitor and implement plant internal controls (in conjunction with company policies) as necessary to ensure reporting integrity, safeguard company assets and identify risks
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related degree is required
- CPA or CMA certification preferred
Experience
- 6+ years of Finance Operations experience including managing processes and people
- 6+ years of Cost Accounting experience including analysis of BOMs, Routings, Purchased and Manufactured items
- Large international or multi-site manufacturing business preferred
- Recent SAP experience is required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication with the ability to work well within a team setting as well as with internal and external customers. Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships
- Excellent experience and understanding of Microsoft Excel using tables, pivot tables, advanced functions and compound functions
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and meet strict deadlines
- Demonstrate appreciation of and sensitivity toward a wide range of cultural and personal differences
- Ability to review processes and identify improvements to develop best practices
- Disciplined work ethic and the capability to handle multiple projects.
