Position Description:

The Science Technician will play a vital role in supporting the Science department by ensuring that practical lessons run smoothly and safely. This includes preparing and maintaining resources, managing stock levels, supporting teachers with lesson materials, and ensuring a well-organized and safe laboratory environment.

• Experience working as a science technician or in a laboratory setting.

• Familiarity with handling and preparing chemical solutions safely.
• Experience working in a school environment.

Qualifications

• A science-related qualification
• Training in laboratory health and safety procedures (preferred).

Positions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Prepare materials, equipment, and chemicals for science experiments and practical lessons.
• Assist teachers in setting up and dismantling experiments.
• Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and ready for use.
• Offer technical support to students and staff during practical activities.

• Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels of chemicals, equipment, and other resources.
• Order new stock as required, ensuring timely procurement of supplies.
• Keep accurate inventory records and update stock lists regularly.
• Ensure safe and proper storage of chemicals and equipment in line with health and safety regulations.

• Ensure all laboratory activities comply with health and safety regulations.
• Maintain safety equipment such as eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and fume cupboards.
• Regularly check, clean, and maintain science equipment.
• Safely dispose of waste chemicals and biological materials.
• Conduct risk assessments for practical activities and hazardous substances.

• Maintain the preparation room, ensuring it is clean, organized, and safe.
• Wash, sterilize, and store glassware and laboratory equipment properly.
• Ensure practical workstations and storage areas are well-maintained.

• Assist in the development and trial of new experiments and resources.
• Provide technical guidance to students on the proper use of equipment.
• Support teachers with demonstrations where required.
