Main Opportunities and Challenges

Main Accountabilities
Support British Council's global English strategy by:

• Planning, preparing and delivering high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups, taking to account individual learning styles.
• Monitoring progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students' performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy.
• Contributing to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services.
• Ensuring teaching meets the standards expected in Teaching and Learning Reviews, the annual Academic Quality Plans and organisational expectations.
• Using technology during lessons when required.
• Finishing administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
• Contributing to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students' understanding of the contemporary UK.
• Assisting in covering classes for colleagues.
• Actively engaging in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain British Council's position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
• Supporting local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service.
• Ensuring safeguarding and other guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
  • Child protection
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Health and safety

Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults.
• You should have experience in teaching two or more of the following age groups:
  • Very Young learners <4 (400+ hours)
  • Young learners aged 4 to 7 (400+ hours)
  • Young learners aged 8 to 12 (400+ hours)
  • Young learners aged 13 to 17 (400+hours)
  • Adults aged 18+ (800+ hours)
• Cambridge CELTA/Trinity CertTESOL
• High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.

Additional Information

• Teachers normally teach over a five-day week, variable through Monday to Saturday, and will also be placed on the cover timetable. Classes are currently offered from 07.00 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 08.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. on Saturdays. Teachers are expected to be available for work on Saturdays during most terms and to be flexible with their schedule to cover the core business needs. Every effort is made to reduce split shifts although operational needs may require them.
• Hourly-paid teachers are scheduled on a termly basis depending on their availability and the teaching centre's needs.
• Classes are offered online and face-to-face in both our on-site premises and off-site in companies and partner schools. All teachers regardless of contract type should be prepared to teach in all locations. Travel time and or expenses may be compensated for some locations in line with the local travel policy.
• All teachers are expected to be able to eventually teach on all course types: Adults, Young Learners, Business, and Exam preparation, and to support development of courses and materials in these areas.
• Training support and mentoring will be offered to teachers who are teaching a course for the first time.
