Job Summary
This Finance Business Partner is a proactive and analytical Sr. Finance role that supports our Research & Development (R&D) team & Program Management Team. The role is crucial in driving financial strategy, providing financial insights and decision support. This Finance BP ensures financial stewardship for R&D initiatives and Programs while ensuring compliance to Accounting principles, policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in finance, experience in R&D and Program Management environments, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights and decisions.
The Finance Business Partner is a co-pilot with the responsible Functional and Program Leaders to ensure achieving financial commitments.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· Financial Reporting and Compliance:
o Prepare and present financial results to R&D management and Program Management
o Ensure compliance with IFRS financial policies, procedures, and regulations
· Program and SteerCo Management:
o Work hand-in-hand with the Program Director and the Program Teams to prepare and address Program Management KPIs
o Present key Program Management insights and priorities in bi-weekly Program SteerCos
o Address financial risks and opportunities on program level pro-actively with Program Managers and Program Director
· Financial Analysis:
o Provide financial analytics for R&D and Program Management spend
o Analyze and highlight key variances and trends
o Profitability analysis per individual customer account
· Budgeting and Forecasting:
o Collaborate with R&D and Program Management leadership to prepare annual budgets, quarterly forecasts and latest estimates
o Monitor and control R&D and Program Management expenditures, ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints and financial goals.
o Resource consolidation of Project needs vs Cost center capacity
· Strategic Support:
o Provide financial advice & recommendations for decision-making and strategic planning of R&D initiatives, programs and overall investments
o Evaluate the financial viability of new projects and technologies, including cost-benefit analysis and ROI assessments.
· Process Improvement:
o Identify opportunities for process & system improvements, ensure decisions are taken and implement agreed improvements across R&D, Program Management and beyond
o Implement best practices around financial management of R&D expenses
o Prepare, share and address benchmarking across R&D and Program Management
· Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with R&D and Program Management teams to understand project requirements, timelines, and related spend
o Act as a liaison between R&D and other departments, including Finance, to ensure seamless communication and alignment on financials
o Be the Finance point of contact for internal customers (R&D and Program Management)
· Risk Management:
o Align with R&D and Program Management leadership and define plans in order to achieve financial plans and commitments. Work closely with CTO and Program Management Director on plans, actions, timelines and ownership
o Assess and manage financial risks associated with R&D and program spend
o Develop strategies and underpinned plans to mitigate financial risks
· Employ a hands-on, pragmatic and pro-active approach towards optimizing financial results
· Solution oriented and business-minded leader who aligns R&D and Program Management priorities with business goals and understands and drives activities that optimize business results and financial valuation.
Required Skills:
· Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree or professional certification like CPA, CMA is a plus).
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in a finance leadership role, with significant exposure to R&D
· Pro-active Finance leadership, self-driven to address and resolve opportunities and risks
· Strong understanding of financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting
· Proven ability to analyze complex data, provide actionable insights and lead towards decisions
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
· Advanced proficiency in financial software and tools (SAP, Netsuite, Excel)
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
