?Position: The Tooling Engineer will provide hands-on support in the production and maintenance of tooling used in the manufacturing of aluminum components, specifically supporting castings. The role involves problem-solving, design, and collaboration with various teams to ensure the smooth operation and quality of tooling programs, will work closely with the Tool Room, engineering, and quality assurance teams, ensuring timelines, budgets, and customer quality standards are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide problem-solving and maintenance support to production for both new and replacement tooling programs related to castings.
Collaborate with the Tool Room team to ensure effective tooling maintenance and issue resolution.
Serve as a key contact for tooling decisions, project coordination, and status updates.
Support mold design, build, and repair functions, including CNC fixtures and gauges.
Provide quotations for tooling prices and standard operation rates, assisting the engineering team.
Assist sales and engineering staff or customers in part design reviews to optimize manufacturability and cost.
Provide support during tooling sampling runs and during the transition into production, ensuring manufacturability as per design.
Collaborate with Quality Assurance personnel to ensure that parts produced from tooling meet acceptable quality standards.
Maintain timelines, budgets, and project documentation for all tooling projects.
Participate in scrap reduction efforts and ISO 9000 quality management programs as required.
Maintain an understanding of how each activity contributes to achieving quality objectives and ensure customer quality standards are met. Responsibilities may include special characteristics selection, setting quality objectives, training, corrective and preventive actions, product design and development, capacity analysis, logistics information, customer scorecards, and managing customer portals.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university, or extended education and relevant experience in a related field.
Strong knowledge and experience in tooling design, including cast, trim, machining fixturing, and inspection fixturing.
Problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, tool maintenance, and quality assurance standards.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and ensure successful project completion.
